- סָרַקII (cmp. preced.) (to cleanse, to comb, card, hatchel (cmp. b. h. שְׂרִיקוֹת, Is. 19:9). Sot.IX, 5 מותר לִסְרוֹק שםוכ׳ it is permitted to hatchel flax thereon. Naz.VI, 3 אבל לא סוֹרֵק but must not comb his hair. Y.Pes.I, 27b top סוֹרֶקֶת must comb her hair (before bathing). Ber.61b היו סוֹרְקִין את בשרווכ׳ they flayed his flesh with iron combs; a. fr.Dem. I, 4 הסוֹרֵק, v. סָרוֹק. Tosef.Kel.B. Bath.VII, 10 סורקים, R. S. to Kel. XXX, 3, v. סָרַח I.)Part. pass. סָרוּק; pl. סְרוּקִים. Kel. XXVI, 5 עור הסרוק the skin on which the carded wool is placed for sale; עור הסורק the skin which the carder uses as an apron. Yalk. Zech. 574 (play on שרקים, Zech. 1:8) סרוקיםכד״אוכ׳ ‘hatchelled material as the root saraḳ is used (Is. 19:9) in the sense of flax; this refers to the sons of Gershon whose burdens consisted mostly of linen garments.
